BOOK LIST
Reading is important for kids’ success. Students who read well do better in school. Adults who read well do better on the job. When you can read, a world of information is open to you—in books, in magazines and newspapers, and on the internet.  Following is a list of books that I recommend and that are popular with first grade students.

Some of these books are AR (Accelerated Reader) books. The Accelerated  Reader program is a computerized program that tests reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently or with a buddy, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level. Students get a percentage of these points based on how many of the test questions they get right. The program tracks their progress over the course of the school year. There are hundreds of ARbooks available through the COE Media Center and in the classroom. Individual goals are set throughout the year and awards and celebrations are held at the end of each 9-week period.  If you have any further questions regarding AR, please call me or set up an appointment and I will be happy to give you more details.  In the meantime, spend some quality time with your child by simply enjoying a book together!
